(Sensor) Size Matters

When you are looking for a new camera, you will always come across the salesperson that says camera A is much better than camera B because it has 12 versus 10 mega pixels.  Is that really the case?  Is the amount of mega pixels on the sensor the true measure of a camera's worth and capability?  If you would like to be better informed so as not to fall into the mega pixel myth, read this article reprinted from my tips and tricks journal.

Occasionally someone will ask me how I get to a final print from the original image capture. So I am going to post an example of my process. But first there are two items to consider: 1) I almost never have a final image in mind when I make the original photo. In other words, very seldom do I compose in the viewfinder. If I recognize that the subject has possibilities I take it as raw material, a starting point, which then leads to item number; 2) Almost all of my final prints are manipulated by me in varying degrees using "digital darkroom" tools, such as Photoshop.

How to photograph a waterfall

We've all seen pictures of waterfalls at one time or another.  The question that usually comes to mind is how did they achieve that silky effect with the water?  What magic was used to create the cotton stretched over the rocks.  Well, it is really no big secret, it all comes down to shutter speed.  In this article which has been reprinted from one of my Tips and Tricks will hopefully answer some of the questions related to waterfall photography.
